Ewell St Mary Day of Dance

We join Ewell St Mary Morris Men, and other invited sides, on their entertaining and enjoyable day of dance, which this year is a "walking" tour of Ewell
10 am The Famous Green Man: all teams meet and dance. The High Street
will be closed to traffic.
10:40 am Procession down the High Street (depending on access) and thence to
the Ewell Village Fair.
11 am The Ewell Village Fair: dancing by all teams in the Arena, followed by
'Grinning through the Horse Collar'.
Grinning through a Horse Collar was a traditional event held in ‘olden
times’ in the Green Man yard. ‘Grinning’ or ‘Gurning’, is producing
grotesque facial expressions. As many as wish to may take part may do
so. The organisers take no responsibility for nightmares, sleepless
nights, or any other condition resulting from watching the competition.
12:30 pm The Wheatsheaf: dancing by Kingston Morris, Phoenix Clog &
12:30 pm The Eight Bells: dancing by Black Swan, Ewell St Mary’s MM &
Thames Valley MM.
1 pm The Wheatsheaf: lunch, followed by dancing, jigs or music for those
2:30 pm The Famous Green Man: dancing by Black Swan & Rampant Roosters.
2:30 pm The Eight Bells: dancing by Kingston Morris and Phoenix Clog.
2:30 pm The Ewell Village Fair: dancing among the stalls (away from the
Arena) by Ewell St Mary’s MM.
3:30 pm The Famous Green Man: dancing by Ewell St Mary’s MM, Kingston
Morris & Phoenix Clog.
3:30 pm The Ewell Village Fair: dancing among the stalls (away from the
Arena) by Black Swan & Rampant Rooster
4:30 pm The Eight Bells: dancing by all teams.
5:30 pm The Wheatsheaf: adjournment for rest and thirst quenching or
impromptu dance, music and song.
7:00 pm St Mary’s Church Hall: the Feast, followed by song and impromptu
